Boss Lab

How to build your first robot in Boss Lab

A step-by-step Workshop checklist for a legal Boss Lab build, from body and weight to weapons, mobility and support.

By Boss Lab XYZ inc.

Choose an owned body, equip mobility and at least one compatible weapon, then keep the attachments within the body’s carrying capacity. Match weapon range, Brain behavior and support parts before adding levels.

Choose the body for the job

A body is more than its appearance. It sets core health, carrying capacity, battery, energy generation, turning behavior and Rage. A heavy body can carry more equipment but can turn slowly; a light body may reposition quickly while leaving less room for attachments.

Junk Titan and Scout are starter options. Later Campaign unlocks introduce bodies such as Skipper, Brawler, Spider Guardian and Reactor Guardian. Choose from what you own and compare the Workshop preview rather than assuming that a later body suits every loadout.

Equip in a useful order

Pick mobility next, then the weapon or weapon pair that defines the build. Fill the defense and utility positions around a problem you expect to face. Check the final weight after every swap: a support part that pushes the machine over its limit makes the draft unable to fight.

  • Body: enough capacity and energy for the intended equipment.
  • Mobility: enough speed to reach or keep your preferred range.
  • Weapons: overlapping effective ranges and manageable heat.
  • Support: a defense or utility with a specific purpose.

Check behavior before entering battle

The default movement target depends on the shortest living weapon range. That makes mixed melee/ranged builds behave differently from a pair of ranged weapons. Hunter can help a close-range build pursue; Counterstrike can help a suitable ranged build back away.

Quick Build offers legal options from your owned collection. Treat its suggestions as starting points. Fight, inspect the result, and use Undo or a single swap to compare alternatives. Attachment angles and flips change presentation rather than creating a hidden damage bonus.
