Boss Lab

Boss Lab Brains: Hunter, Counterstrike and Berserker

Choose a Boss Lab Brain preset and understand how ordered WHEN → DO rules interact with your machine’s movement and weapons.

By Boss Lab XYZ inc.

Start with a Brain preset that suits the build, then observe it in battle. Hunter supports closing distance; Counterstrike can retreat with suitable ranged equipment. Advanced rules take priority over preset fallbacks when their conditions match.

Match behavior to weapon range

Hunter, Counterstrike and Berserker are immediately available presets. They are configuration choices, not parts you must buy. A preset is a starting behavior for the machine you assembled, so evaluate it with the actual weapons, body and mobility equipped.

Hunter helps close distance, while Counterstrike can back away when too close to a sufficiently ranged loadout. Neither changes weapon reach, carrying capacity or the arena boundary. A movement choice that suits a dual saw can undermine a projectile build.

Understand rule priority

You can configure up to three ordered WHEN → DO rules. The first matching eligible rule wins separately for movement, weapons, utility and defense. Preset behavior acts as the fallback beneath those rules.

Put specific situations before broad conditions. If a general rule always matches first for a behavior, a later narrow rule may never control it. After adding a rule, watch a fight where its condition should occur and confirm that the expected action follows.

Change behavior before buying power

If the machine repeatedly leaves range, closes too far or fails to use a support part as intended, test the Brain configuration before spending Scrap. Levels increase eligible attachment health and damage; they do not rewrite movement priorities.

For a clean comparison, leave the parts unchanged and run the new behavior against a familiar opponent. Look at time in range, turning and utility use rather than just the final win screen. Then keep the simpler setup unless the custom rule solves an observable problem.
