Boss Lab energy and heat: why your weapons stop firing

Diagnose battle-energy starvation, overheating, range and facing problems before spending Scrap on more damage.

Weapons need enough battle energy to start attacks and must manage heat. Overheating starts at 80 heat and clears below 30. Battle energy is separate from the Campaign energy used to enter encounters.

First check range and facing

A silent weapon is not always out of energy. The machine must face the enemy and have a legal target in range. A commitment can also fail if the target escapes before release. Watch position and turning before changing the resource setup.

If both weapons repeatedly start and stop together, inspect the battery. Energy is reserved at commitment, and a low supply delays the next start. Utility and defense effects can spend energy too, so a new support part can change weapon uptime.

Understand overheating

Heat rises when a weapon fires and cools by one per tick in the base system. At 80 heat it overheats, and it must drop below 30 before that state clears. Fast attacks can therefore create cooling windows that a simple damage-per-cooldown calculation misses.

Overdrive speeds cooldowns but does not erase resource constraints. A burst window can be less useful if the build is already overheating or starving. Check the full sequence rather than only the first few shots.

Choose the right resource fix

A body with stronger generation, a useful energy synergy or an appropriate support part can help a battery-limited build. Storm Core combines Tesla and Pulse Laser for more battery and generation. Later Arsenal options add other energy and cooling interactions.

If your problem is heat, extra battery alone does not remove overheating. If the problem is chasing, cooling changes will not create range. Keep the same opponent, change one suspected bottleneck and compare attack uptime. Campaign entry energy affects how often you start fights and is a separate system entirely.
